History Of Not Forgotten
Greengage was a project that supported befriending and gardening activities for the over 50s, funded by the National Lottery. The project helped a lot of people in residential and care home settings and found the important and varied effects these services have for people living with dementia.
Dementia Integration and Link (DIAL) was established. The project has delivered support to approximately 400 beneficiaries to help people living with dementia to stay active through a combination of group and individual, holistic support.
Not Forgotten launched and began interviewing people supported by DIAL and their families. With this feedback, the team designed Cardiff-based reminiscence groups to explore individuals’ memories and stories.
DIAL spread its wings and grew into a project. With support from the Integrated Care Fund, extra groups and carer support were delivered in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We are supporting a trial of services in RCT and Merthyr, alongside an exercise to explore people’s needs in this area.
What’s next for DIAL and Not Forgotten? The National Lottery funding, which we’re hugely grateful for, comes to an end in September 2019. DIAL and Not Forgotten would like to continue supporting people with dementia to live as well as possible, and tell their stories.
